How we started
Joyce Tang is the founder and managing consultant of agilisIT. Since her first job as an IT analyst, she has accumulated 12 years of IT experience in different industries, including a premier investment banking and brokerage firm in Beverly Hills, CA. She spent most of her career working and consulting for life science organizations.
While in Los Angeles, Joyce spent years overseeing the administrative and research IT functions for numerous departments at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, with roots in the Human Genetics Department. Determined to break the norm of non-responsive, silo-style IT support, she led her team in providing responsive and proactive IT services. She worked closely with individual research groups to tailor analytic tools and best practice computing systems to their specific research goals. The transformation and high quality of work garnered accolades from faculties and researchers alike. Through word of mouth, numerous departments and research groups began to outsource their entire IT operations and hosted servers to her group, these included the the Brain Research Institute, Dept. of Biostatistics, Dept. of Biomathematics, the Southern California Genotyping Consortium (SCGC), a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Investigator, etc. She has also worked with various vendor systems such as Illumina, ABI Biosystems, Affymetrix, Qiagen Autopure, etc., and an array of open-source analytical software.
After relocating to San Diego, the increased demands from her former clients became the catalyst for her to devote full time to agilisIT. She built the company doing what she did best - Life Sciences Informatics and IT . With the commitment and quality of care from Joyce and her team of IT pros, agilisIT was profitable during its 1st year of operation.
Joyce received her B.S. in Electrical Engineer with Computer Engineering focus from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and her M.B.A from Indiana University (IU). She is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and a CompTIA Security+ certified security personnel. She writes an Outlook-Exchange column at OutlookExchange.com.
